    Aviva Stadium, Dublin

The Aviva Stadium is the heart of Irish Rugby. It replaced the cherished old Lansdowne Road venue, which was demolished in 2007.

The first rugby match played at the ground was an inter provincial between Leinster and Munster in December 1876. In1878, the first international rugby fixture was held at Lansdowne. In the early 1900s the IRFU leased Lansdowne Road from the Pembroke Estate & the first stand was built in 1908.

Lansdowne Road was conceived as a multi-purpose venue but it soon became synonymous with rugby although Olympic gold medalist Ronnie Delany ran there in an international athletics meeting. It was during the 1980s that the Irish soccer team also made Lansdowne its home. The first football game at the stadium took place in 1971 when Ireland played Italy in a friendly.

In its old incarnation the Lansdowne Road Stadium was the oldest sports stadium in Europe.
The old stadium had a long and proud history of hosting world class athletic events. It also welcomed some world famous artists such as Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Sammy Davies Junior, Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Neil Diamond, Bon Jovi, The Eagles & REM.

To help defray construction costs of the new Stadium, the Irish Rugby Union sold the naming rights to the Aviva Group.

The new stadium ,with a capacity of over 50,000 has an undulating roof  in a wave-like manner to avoid blocking light to local residences. It provides roof cover for all seating. This is a big bonus as the weather in Dublin can be very inclement. Much more convenient.
The hallowed turf of the Aviva Stadium offers an excellent corporate environment for Meetings and Events ,casting calls or private functions.

The new Aviva stadium, located adjacent to Lansdowne Road railway station, officially opened on 14 May 2010.
